New Discovery post 1: Galia Mango

I love discovering new things, especially in fashion. Recently I was fortunate to have been sent the works of two amazing emerging designers from two completely different backs grounds, which made me realize how diverse fashion actually is and that it’s not, as stereotypically know just for or by a certain kind of person.

Galia Mango is the Jordanian-Lebanese designer behind the Red Lipstick label, who was dubbed as the person that would make Jordan stand out on the international fashion map after her label was hailed by the local press to take Jordanian fashion into a new direction.

After she finished her education in Chicago she moved back to Jordan and opened up an atelier designing couture evening gowns and soon after expanded into designing a ready to wear collection, becoming one of the first local designers to have a full pret-a-porter collection.

2011 sees massive expansion for this already established designer, the introduction of the new Galia Mango line and the first free-standing Red Lipstick store which opened in February. Also in the pipeline a new handbag and accessories collection due to launch this Autumn.

Here are my favourite pieces from the Galia Mango new spring/summer collection, titled ‘The Half.’ Bright eye poping colours and on trend feminine pieces that are fashion forward as well as wearable. I can’t get enough.

“As a designer, the moment that first piece of inspiration for a collection is found can only be described as euphoric.  For this collection, that was provided by a photo of Anna Karina.”

“I find photographs of people extremely inspiring when I’m designing, usually more inspiring that photos of art or clothes.  Maybe it’s because designers, artists writers et al. are, at the heart of it, storytellers.  We find a muse, we get inspired, we tell a story.  And as a fashion designer I tell mine through the clothes I make.  The adventures of my muse unfold through each outfit, and each outfit begins a new adventure when worn by the person who chooses it.” Galia Mango
