With every change of season comes a change of fashion, but who realistically can buy a whole new wardrobe every 6 months, apart from the people in the magazines and even that’s only because they mostly get sent the stuff for free.
My way of staying on trend without paying with my heart and soul, is picking up on what the new key trends are and trying to incorporate those into a few items that can be worn through out the season paired with your staple wardrobe pieces, which will show your fashion ‘know how’ without breaking the bank. Plus no one wants a wardrobe full of clothes which you wouldn’t be seen dead in after a few months because there’s now a whole new contrasting trend.
So here is my selection of 5 Summer Essentials.
The nude maxi slip dress is an elegant and stylish combination of three very big trends for this season. Nude tones, the maxi and the slip dress.
Wearing underwear as outer wear may be a little too daring for some but if you make a choice like this dress from T by Alexander Wang with thick straps from jersey material no one will mistake you for wearing your nightie and its the perfect item for a chic minimalist look.
The floral playsuit will add a little fun into your wardrobe. Floral prints and playsuits were both a big hit with the fash pack so if you’re looking for a playsuit make sure you get one with a great print and you’ll propel to fashion elite.
Details such as cuffs and collars were also seen all over the S/S 11 catwalks so look for something like this Goldie playsuit from Topshop which combines maximum trends.
The Bold Blazer like this one from Zara is the perfect item to add a pop of colour to any outfit.
Chose one in Orange, Blue or Purple which came out of the S/S 11 shows as the key colours for this season.
The high-waisted fluid trouser is a staple in summer chic. Buy in a bold colour, like these from Reiss and you’ll be the definition of cool sophistication.
These can be worn with a plain T-shirt and sandals for a casual look or teamed with a fitted blouse and chunky heel for the office.
The denim shirt has made a HUGE return this season. Denim in general was shown constantly throughout the summer collections but it seems that the shirt is the item to have.
Get something simple like this one from Topshop and pair with almost anything from shorts to dresses for an easy summer look.
In my opinion less is always more so go for simpler, more practical items which can be versatile and styled with several outfits to look different each time and still show you’re on top of current trends.
