As always, lace was a huge trend over the party season, and it was featured again in a lot of the SS/12 collections. It can be easy to think of lace as something that should be confined solely to your Christmas wardrobe, but this season, the fabric comes in trendy, fresh and spring-like creations rather than full on party pieces! Romantic lace gowns have been all over the red carpets this awards season, and Kate Middleton opted for a lace number for her birthday party recently.
The main appeal of lace comes from the fact that it’s such a versatile thing to wear; a simple lace dress can be teamed with pastels and soft accessories to create a girl outfit, or have an air of rock-chic if it’s paired with leather and studs; meaning the trend is super wearable, and can be adapted for any occasion.
If lace leaves you cold, have a look at our three ways to wear it to ensure you’re looking fabulous and bang on trend whatever you’re doing this season.
Wear it casually
Opt for romantic new-season separates with this white Rosalie lace top from Isabel Marant Etoile. The corduroy jeans will add texture, and you can really up your sartorial ante with this green washed linen-blend coat from Lanvin. Team the outfit with playful colour-pop accessories – such as this Lanvin clutch and Opening Ceremony sandals – for a directional, feminine finish.
Wear it for work
This sheer lace top from Dolce & Gabbana is a delicate and refined homage to needle-point chic and will make a womanly but professional addition to your working wardrobe. Layer it over a white or cream vest, and combine with classic staples such black pencil skirt and black pumps. Add bright bag to add some colour and create a well-executed office ensemble.
Wear it in the evening
For a quirky evening look and a different take on lace, invest in the voluminous trend with this aubergine and red lace-knit and raffia skirt by Azzedine Alaia. Wear this elegant separate with a black body or vest and sky high lace-up boots, so that the skirt can make a statement. A classic black clutch finishes the outfit and leaves you with a fashion-forward look that will take you from cocktails to club with ease.
